A true [Yaar: beloved/loyal companion] is found only by destiny,
ਯਾਰ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ ਰੱਖ ਲਏ ਗਹਿਣਾ
yAra baNA ke rakkha lae gahiNA
I cherished this [Yaar: beloved] like a precious jewel.

ਰਿਸਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਜ਼ਖ਼ਮਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ
risade hoe ja਼kha਼mAM utte
Upon these raw, oozing wounds,
ਦੱਸ ਰੇ ਫ਼ਾਹਾ ਕੀ ਲਾਈਏ
dassa re pha਼AhA kI lAIe
Tell me, what kind of [Faaha: a cotton swab or dressing for a wound] should I apply?

He who was once beyond any price,
ਅੱਜ ਕੌਡੀਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਵੀ ਸਸਤਾ ਨੀ
ajja kauDIAM toM vI sasatA nI
Is now cheaper than [Kaudian: sea shells; used historically as low-value currency] [Ni/Nee: address to a woman].
ਤੂੰ ਤਾਂ ਮੰਜ਼ਿਲ ਲੱਭ ਲਈ ਏ

You have successfully found your destination,
ਅਸੀਂ ਲੱਭਦੇ ਰਹਿ ਗਏ ਰਸਤਾ ਨੀ
asIM labbhade rahi gae rasatA nI

Even after I have passed away from this world,
ਬਣ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਪਰਛਾਵਾਂ ਰਹਿਣਾ
