ਗੁਨ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਗਾਇਓ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਨਮੁ ਅਕਾਰਥ ਕੀਨੁ
guna gobiMda gAio nahIM janamu akAratha kInu
You did not sing the praises of the Lord, rendering this birth utterly useless
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਭਜੁ ਮਨਾ ਜਿਹ ਬਿਧਿ ਜਲ ਕਉ ਮੀਨੁ
kahu nAnaka hari bhaju manA jiha bidhi jala kau mInu
Says Nanak, meditate on the Divine, O mind, just as a fish finds life in the water
ਬਿਖਿਅਨ ਸਿਉ ਕਾਹੇ ਰਚਿਓ ਨਿਮਖ ਨ ਹੋਹਿ ਉਦਾਸੁ
bikhiana siu kAhe rachio nimakha na hohi udAsu
Why are you so absorbed in worldly poisons, not detaching from them even for a moment?
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਭਜੁ ਹਰਿ ਮਨਾ ਪਰੈ ਨ ਜਮ ਕੀ ਫਾਸ
kahu nAnaka bhaju hari manA parai na jama kI phAsa
Says Nanak, meditate on the Divine, O mind, so you may not fall into the noose of Death
ਤਰਨਾਪੋ ਇਉ ਹੀ ਗਇਓ ਲੀਓ ਜਰਾ ਤਨੁ ਜੀਤੁ
taranApo iu hI gaio lIo jarA tanu jItu
Your youth has slipped away like this, and now old age has conquered your body
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਭਜੁ ਹਰਿ ਮਨਾ ਅਉਧ ਜਾਤ ਹੈ ਬੀਤ
kahu nAnaka bhaju hari manA audha jAta hai bIta
Says Nanak, meditate on the Divine, O mind, for your life's span is swiftly passing by
ਬਿਰਧਿ ਭਇਓ ਸੂਝੈ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਾਲੁ ਪਹੂਚਿਓ ਆਨਿ
biradhi bhaio sUjhai nahIM kAlu pahUchio Ani
You have grown old and lack foresight, even as the moment of death has arrived
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਰ ਬਾਵਰੇ ਕਿਉ ਨ ਭਜੈ ਭਗਵਾਨੁ
kahu nAnaka nara bAvare kiu na bhajai bhagavAnu
Says Nanak, O madman, why do you still not meditate on the Almighty?
ਧਨੁ ਦਾਰਾ ਸੰਪਤਿ ਸਗਲ ਜਿਨਿ ਅਪੁਨੀ ਕਰਿ ਮਾਨਿ
dhanu dArA saMpati sagala jini apunI kari mAni
Wealth, spouse, and all possessions which you claim as your own
ਇਨ ਮੈ ਕਛੁ ਸੰਗੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਚੀ ਜਾਨਿ
ina mai kaChu saMgI nahIM nAnaka sAchI jAni
None of these shall accompany you, Nanak says, know this as the absolute truth
ਬਲੁ ਛੁਟਕਿਓ ਬੰਧਨ ਪਰੇ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਹੋਤ ਉਪਾਇ
balu ChuTakio baMdhana pare kaChU na hota upAi
Strength has ebbed away, bonds have tightened, and no remedy seems to work
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਅਬ ਓਟ ਹਰਿ ਗਜ ਜਿਉ ਹੋਹੁ ਸਹਾਇ
kahu nAnaka aba oTa hari gaja jiu hohu sahAi
Says Nanak, the Lord is now my only sanctuary; come to my aid as You did for the Elephant
ਬਲੁ ਹੋਆ ਬੰਧਨ ਛੁਟੇ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਹੋਤ ਉਪਾਇ
balu hoA baMdhana ChuTe sabhu kiChu hota upAi
When strength is restored, bonds are shattered and every remedy becomes possible
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਤੁਮਰੈ ਹਾਥ ਮੈ ਤੁਮ ਹੀ ਹੋਤ ਸਹਾਇ
nAnaka sabhu kiChu tumarai hAtha mai tuma hI hota sahAi
Nanak, everything is within Your hands; You alone are my eternal support
ਸੰਗ ਸਖਾ ਸਭਿ ਤਜਿ ਗਏ ਕੋਊ ਨ ਨਿਬਹਿਓ ਸਾਥਿ
saMga sakhA sabhi taji gae koU na nibahio sAthi
Companions and [Yaar: close friends/brothers] have all departed, none remained to see it through
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਇਹ ਬਿਪਤਿ ਮੈ ਟੇਕ ਏਕ ਰਘੁਨਾਥ
kahu nAnaka iha bipati mai Teka eka raghunAtha
Says Nanak, in this dire catastrophe, my only anchor is the Lord of the Universe
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਇਹ ਬਿਪਤਿ ਮੈ ਟੇਕ ਏਕ ਰਘੁਨਾਥ
kahu nAnaka iha bipati mai Teka eka raghunAtha
Says Nanak, in this dire catastrophe, my only anchor is the Lord of the Universe

My only anchor is the Lord of the Universe
ਨਾਮੁ ਰਹਿਓ ਸਾਧੂ ਰਹਿਓ ਰਹਿਓ ਗੁਰੁ ਗੋਬਿੰਦੁ
nAmu rahio sAdhU rahio rahio guru gobiMdu
The Holy Name remains, the Saintly ones remain, and the Guru-Prophet remains
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਇਹ ਜਗਤ ਮੈ ਕਿਨ ਜਪਿਓ ਗੁਰ ਮੰਤੁ
kahu nAnaka iha jagata mai kina japio gura maMtu
Says Nanak, how few in this world have chanted the Guru's mystic mantra?
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਉਰ ਮੈ ਗਹਿਓ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਸਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੋਇ
rAma nAmu ura mai gahio jA kai sama nahIM koi
I have grasped the Lord's Name within my heart, to which nothing else can compare
ਜਿਹ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਸੰਕਟ ਮਿਟੈ ਦਰਸੁ ਤੁਹਾਰੋ ਹੋਇ
jiha simarata saMkaTa miTai darasu tuhAro hoi
By remembering Whom all distress vanishes, and I am blessed with Your Divine Vision
