The proud and valiant warriors of the Sikh faith,
ਕਹਿਣੀ ਤੇ ਕਰਨੀ ਦੇ ਪੂਰੇ
kahiNI te karanI de pUre
Whose deeds perfectly match the words they speak.
ਸਿੱਖੀ ਦੇ ਅਣਖੀਲੇ ਸੂਰੇ

To place one's life upon their palm for the sake of justice,

ਸਵਾ ਲੱਖ ਦੀ ਡਾਰ ਲਈ ਬਸ ਇੱਕ ਬਥੇਰਾ ਏ
savA lakkha dI DAra laI basa ikka batherA e
Against a swarm of a hundred and twenty-five thousand, just one of them is enough,
ਸਵਾ ਲੱਖ ਦੀ ਡਾਰ ਲਈ ਬਸ ਇੱਕ ਬਥੇਰਾ ਏ
savA lakkha dI DAra laI basa ikka batherA e

ਬੰਦ ਬੰਦ ਕਟਵਾਉਣੇ ਦਾ ਵੀ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਜੇਰਾ ਏ

They possess the immense courage to endure being dismembered joint by joint,
ਬੰਦ ਬੰਦ ਕਟਵਾਉਣੇ ਦਾ ਵੀ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਜੇਰਾ ਏ
baMda baMda kaTavAuNe dA vI rakkhade jerA e
They possess the immense courage to endure being dismembered joint by joint.
ਅਣਖ ਲਈ ਫਿਰ ਜੁਰਅਤ ਵਿਖਾਉਣੀ
aNakha laI phira juraata vikhAuNI
To uphold their [Anakh: fierce self-respect and honor], they must show their mettle,
ਅਣਖ ਲਈ ਫਿਰ ਜੁਰਅਤ ਵਿਖਾਉਣੀ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਸਿੰਘਾਂ ਨੂੰ

kha਼Una 'cha hI kurabAnI sikkhI dhAra hai khaMDe dI
Sacrifice runs in their very blood; the Sikh faith is the sharp edge of the [Khanda: a double-edged sanctified sword],
ਖ਼ੂਨ 'ਚ ਹੀ ਕੁਰਬਾਨੀ ਸਿੱਖੀ ਧਾਰ ਹੈ ਖੰਡੇ ਦੀ
kha਼Una 'cha hI kurabAnI sikkhI dhAra hai khaMDe dI
Sacrifice runs in their very blood; the Sikh faith is the sharp edge of the [Khanda: a double-edged sanctified sword].
ਸ਼ਾਨ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾ ਰੱਖਣੀ ਉੱਚੀ ਕੇਸਰੀ ਝੰਡੇ ਦੀ

The glory of the [Kesari: saffron-colored, representing sacrifice and purity] flag must always be kept high,
ਸ਼ਾਨ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾ ਰੱਖਣੀ ਉੱਚੀ ਕੇਸਰੀ ਝੰਡੇ ਦੀ
sa਼Ana hamesa਼A rakkhaNI uchchI kesarI jhaMDe dI
The glory of the [Kesari: saffron-colored] flag must always be kept high.
ਜਾਨ ਵਾਰ ਕੇ ਸ਼ਾਨ ਬਚਾਉਣੀ
jAna vAra ke sa਼Ana bachAuNI
Even at the cost of their lives, they must protect its dignity,
ਜਾਨ ਵਾਰ ਕੇ ਸ਼ਾਨ ਬਚਾਉਣੀ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਸਿੰਘਾਂ ਨੂੰ
jAna vAra ke sa਼Ana bachAuNI paiMdI siMghAM nUM
The [Singhs] must protect that dignity by sacrificing their very lives.
