Is everything truly alright?
ਕਿਉਂ ਲੋਕ ਕੁੰਡੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਖੋਲ੍ਹ ਰਹੇ
kiuM loka kuMDe nahIM kholha rahe
Why aren't the people opening their door-latches?
ਭਲਾ ਸੁੱਖ ਤਾਂ ਹੈ?

ਸੁੰਨਾ-ਸੁੰਨਾ ਸਾਫ਼-ਸਾਫ਼ ਅਸਮਾਨ ਕਿਉਂ ਹੈ?
suMnA-suMnA sApha਼-sApha਼ asamAna kiuM hai?
Why is the sky so desolately clear?
ਚੁੱਪ-ਚਪੀਤਾ ਭੈ-ਭੀਤ ਇਨਸਾਨ ਕਿਉਂ ਹੈ?
chuppa-chapItA bhai-bhIta inasAna kiuM hai?
Why is the human being so silent and terrified?
ਓਏ ਅੱਗ ਤੇ ਪਾਣੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਡੋਲ੍ਹ ਰਹੇ

O, fire and water are no longer clashing

We have no news of this, O God
ਕੀ ਧਰਤੀ ਉੱਤੇ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ
kI dharatI utte hoiA hai
What has happened upon this Earth
ਪਰ ਐਨੀ ਚੁੱਪ-ਚਾਪ ਜਿਹੀ ਦੇਖ ਕੇ
para ainI chuppa-chApa jihI dekha ke
But seeing such a deathly silence
ਸਾਡਾ ਤਾਂ ਦਿਲ ਰੋਇਆ ਹੈ
sADA tAM dila roiA hai
Our hearts have begun to weep
ਚਾਹੇ ਗ਼ਲਤੀ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੀ
chAhe ga਼latI lokAM dI
Whether it be the fault of the people
ਤੇ ਚਾਹੇ ਗ਼ਲਤੀ ਸਾਡੀ ਹੈ

Or whether the fault is ours
ਪਰ ਹੋਰ ਸਹੀ ਹੁਣ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਨਹੀਂ

But we can no longer endure this
ਇਹ ਪੀੜ ਬੜੀ ਹੀ ਡਾਢੀ ਹੈ
iha pI.Da ba.DI hI DADhI hai
This pain is far too intense
ਹਰ ਦੁੱਖ ਤੂੰ ਕਰਦੇ ਸਾਫ਼ ਰੱਬਾ
hara dukkha tUM karade sApha਼ rabbA
Wash away every sorrow, O God
ਸਾਡੀ ਭੁੱਲ-ਚੁੱਕ ਕਰਦੇ ਮਾਫ਼ ਰੱਬਾ
sADI bhulla-chukka karade mApha਼ rabbA
Forgive our every mistake and lapse, O God
ਹਰ ਜਾਨ ਜਾਨ ਦੇ ਕੋਲ ਰਹੇ
hara jAna jAna de kola rahe
May every life remain close to another life
