Bringing two precious shawls worth two hundred and fifty thousand,
ਕਸ਼ਮੀਰੋਂ ਸਿੰਘ ਤੁਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਵੱਲ ਨੂੰ
kasa਼mIroM siMgha ture gurU valla nUM
The Singhs set out from Kashmir towards the Guru.
ਉਹ ਕੋਲ ਪੱਟੀ ਆ ਕੇ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਵਰਖਾ

Near the village of Patti, the rains began to pour,
ਦੁਸ਼ਾਲੇ ਸੁੱਕਣੇ ਸੀ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਸਿੰਘਾਂ ਪਾ
dusa਼Ale sukkaNe sI ditte siMghAM pA
The Singhs spread the shawls out to let them dry.
ਵੇਖ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਦੁਸ਼ਾਲੇ ਮੁਗ਼ਲ ਡੋਲ ਗਏ
vekha suMdara dusa਼Ale muga਼la Dola gae
Seeing the beautiful shawls, the Mughals lost their integrity,
ਖ਼ਾਨ ਧੱਕੋ-ਜ਼ੋਰੀ ਸਿੰਘਾਂ ਹੱਥੋਂ ਖੋਹ ਲਏ
kha਼Ana dhakko-ja਼orI siMghAM hatthoM khoha lae
The Khan forcibly snatched them from the Singhs' hands.
ਭਾਈ ਬਿਧੀ ਚੰਦ ਛੇਵੇਂ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ‘ਚ
bhAI bidhI chaMda CheveM pAtasa਼Aha de charanAM ‘cha
At the feet of the Sixth Emperor [Sixth Guru of the Sikhs],
ਸਿੰਘਾਂ ਆ ਬਿਆਨ ਵਾਕਿਆ ਕੀਤਾ
siMghAM A biAna vAkiA kItA
The Singhs arrived and recounted the historic feat [Vaka].

In a fit of rage, the Singhs gripped their [Khande: double-edged swords],
ਉਹ ਬਿਧੀ ਚੰਦ ਆਖੇ ਇਕੱਲਾ ਕੋਈ ਜਾਏ
uha bidhI chaMda Akhe ikallA koI jAe
But Bidhi Chand said, "Let one man go alone."
ਉਹ ਓਟ ਛੇਵੇਂ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਹੋ ਘੋੜੇ 'ਤੇ ਸਵਾਰ
uha oTa CheveM pAtasa਼Aha ho gho.De 'te savAra
With the protection of the Sixth Emperor, he mounted his horse,
ਬਿਧੀ ਦੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਦੇ ਰਾਖੇ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਸੋਢੀ ਕਰਤਾਰ
bidhI dI ijja਼ta de rAkhe tusIM soDhI karatAra
"You are the protector of Bidhi's honor, O Sodhi Creator [referring to the Guru's lineage]."
ਤਖ਼ਤ ਪੋਸ਼ੀ ਉੱਤੇ ਬੈਠੇ ਸੀਗੇ ਖ਼ਾਨਜ਼ਾਦੇ

The Mughal princes were seated upon their thrones,
ਵਪਾਰੀ ਭੇਸ ਧਾਰਿਆ ਸੀ ਬਿਧੀ ਚੰਦ ਬਾਬੇ
vapArI bhesa dhAriA sI bidhI chaMda bAbe
When Baba Bidhi Chand arrived disguised as a merchant.
ਹੇਰਾਫੇਰੀ ਦੇ ਉਹਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਖ਼ਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਜੇ ਮਾਲ
herApherI de uhade nAla kha਼rA nahIM je mAla
"This merchandise is not pure; there is trickery involved," he claimed,
ਕਹਿੰਦਾ ਦੇ ਦੋ ਜਿਹਨੂੰ ਦੇਣਾ ਮੈਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਜੇ ਲੈਂਦਾ
kahiMdA de do jihanUM deNA maiM nahIM je laiMdA
He said, "Give it to whom you must, I shall not take it."
ਬਾਬਾ ਬਿਧੀ ਚੰਦ ਛੀਨਾ

The Baba had a [Burka: a long enveloping outer garment] stitched by a tailor,
ਬਣ ਕੇ ਬੇਗਮ ਪਾ ਬੁਰਕਾ ਚੁਬਾਰੇ ਚੜ੍ਹ ਆਇਆ
baNa ke begama pA burakA chubAre cha.Dha AiA
Disguised as a queen in that veil, he climbed to the upper chamber.
ਬੈਠਾ ਪਲੰਘ ‘ਤੇ ਬਣਿਆ ਜ਼ਨਾਨੀ ਭੇਸ ਵਟਾਈ
baiThA palaMgha ‘te baNiA ja਼nAnI bhesa vaTAI
He sat upon the royal bed, having transformed into a woman's likeness,
ਖ਼ਾਨ ਦੀਆਂ ਬੇਗ਼ਮਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝ ਨਾ ਆਈ
kha਼Ana dIAM bega਼mAM nUM samajha nA AI
The Khan’s queens could not fathom the deception.
ਮਾਰ ਕੁੰਡਾ ਪਰਦਾ ਜਦੋਂ ਚੁੱਕਿਆ ਫਿਰ ਤਾਂ
mAra kuMDA paradA jadoM chukkiA phira tAM
Once he locked the door and lifted the veil,
ਕੰਧੋਂ ਸ਼ਮਸ਼ੀਰ ਬਾਬਾ ਦੋਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਸੱਟ
kaMdhoM sa਼masa਼Ira bAbA dohAM de dittI saTTa
The Baba struck down both guards with a sword from the wall.
ਸਣੇ ਦੁਸ਼ਾਲਿਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਲੈ ਸੋਨਾ ਰਾਣੀਆਂ ਦਾ
saNe dusa਼AliAM vicha lai sonA rANIAM dA
Taking the shawls along with the queens' gold,
ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਫ਼ਰਾਰ ਵੇਖਦੇ ਵੇਂਦੇ ਜੱਟ ਛੀਨਾ
ho giA pha਼rAra vekhade veMde jaTTa ChInA
The [Jatt: a member of the land-owning agricultural community] of Chhina escaped in the blink of an eye.

ਹੋ ਪੈ ਗਏ ਲਗ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਹਾਲਾ-ਲਾਲਾ
ho pai gae laga pichChe ho gaI hAlA-lAlA
The pursuers fell behind him, a great hue and cry arose,
ਆਖੇ ਭੱਠੀ ਵਾਲੇ ਨੂੰ ਬਾਬਾ ਲੁਕਾ ਲੈ
Akhe bhaTThI vAle nUM bAbA lukA lai
He asked the furnace-man, "O Baba, hide me!"
ਬੈਠਾ ਵਿਚ ਭੱਠੀ ਬਾਬਾ ਚੌਂਕੜੀ ਮਾਰੀ
baiThA vicha bhaTThI bAbA chauMka.DI mArI
The Baba sat inside the burning furnace in a meditative posture,
ਪੜ੍ਹੀ 'ਤਾਤੀ ਵਾਉ ਨ ਲਗਈ' ਪੰਕਤੀ ਸੁਣਾਈ
pa.DhI 'tAtI vAu na lagaI' paMkatI suNAI
Reciting the holy verse: "The hot wind does not touch me."
ਤਾਤੀ ਵਾਉ ਨ ਲਗਈ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਸਰਣਾਈ
tAtI vAu na lagaI pArabrahama saraNAI
"The hot wind does not touch me; I am in the Sanctuary of the Supreme Lord."
ਚਉਗਿਰਦ ਹਮਾਰੈ ਰਾਮ ਕਾਰੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਲਗੈ ਨ ਭਾਈ
chaugirada hamArai rAma kAru dukhu lagai na bhAI
"On all four sides, the Lord’s Circle is around me; suffering does not touch me, O brother."
ਛੇਵੇਂ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਕੌਤਕ ਵਰਤਾਇਆ
CheveM pAtasa਼Aha kautaka varatAiA
The Sixth Emperor performed a divine miracle,
ਹੱਥ ਦੇ ਬਾਬਾ ਬਿਧੀ ਚੰਦ ਨੂੰ ਬਚਾਇਆ
hattha de bAbA bidhI chaMda nUM bachAiA
With His own hand, He saved Baba Bidhi Chand.
ਅੱਜ ਵੀ ਆ ਬੈਠਾ ਬਾਬਾ ਸੁਰਸਿੰਘ ਵੇਖਣਾ ਜੇ ਕਿਸੇ
ajja vI A baiThA bAbA surasiMgha vekhaNA je kise
Even today, the Baba resides in Sursingh village if one wishes to see,
ਜਮ੍ਹਾਂ ਐਨ ਹੂ-ਬ-ਹੂ ਇੰਨ-ਬਿੰਨ
jamhAM aina hU-ba-hU iMna-biMna
Existing there exactly as he was, in true likeness.
ਸਿੱਖ ਹੋਵੇ ਬਹਾਦਰ ਬਾਬੇ ਬਿਧੀ ਚੰਦ ਵਰਗਾ
sikkha hove bahAdara bAbe bidhI chaMda varagA
A Sikh should be brave like Baba Bidhi Chand,
ਗੁਰੂ ਹੋਵੇ ਛੇਵੇਂ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਮਹਾਰਾਜ ਵਰਗਾ
gurU hove CheveM pAtasa਼Aha mahArAja varagA
A Guru should be like the Great Sixth Emperor.
