mana hai kalaMdara mana hai jogI
The mind is a [Qalandar: a wandering Sufi saint who has transcended worldly bonds], the mind is a [Jogi: an ascetic or yogi who renounces the world]
ਮਨ ਜੋ ਚਾਹੇ ਮਨ ਕੀ ਹੋਗੀ
mana jo chAhe mana kI hogI
The mind gets whatever it desires
ਫਿਰ ਕਿਉਂ ਮਨ ਨੇ ਝੂਠ ਕੋ ਪੂਜਾ
phira kiuM mana ne jhUTha ko pUjA
Then why did the mind start worshipping falsehood?
ਦੁੱਖ ਤਕਲੀਫ਼ਾਂ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਭੋਗੀ
dukkha takalIpha਼AM sArIAM bhogI
And ended up suffering all these agonies
ਕਭੀ ਸਦੀਆਂ ਕਭੀ ਲਮਹਾਂ ਕਭੀ ਮੁਸ਼ਕਿਲ ਕਭੀ ਆਸਾਂ
kabhI sadIAM kabhI lamahAM kabhI musa਼kila kabhI AsAM
Sometimes centuries, sometimes a moment; sometimes hardship, sometimes ease
ਕਭੀ ਰੂਠੀ ਕਭੀ ਝੂਠੀ ਕਭੀ ਪੂਰੀ ਕਭੀ ਟੂਟੀ
kabhI rUThI kabhI jhUThI kabhI pUrI kabhI TUTI
Sometimes annoyed, sometimes false; sometimes complete, sometimes shattered
ਕਭੀ ਜੁਗਨੂ ਕਭੀ ਤਾਰਾ ਕਭੀ ਕਮ ਕਮ ਕਭੀ ਸਾਰਾ
kabhI juganU kabhI tArA kabhI kama kama kabhI sArA
Sometimes a firefly, sometimes a star; sometimes just a bit, sometimes the whole

A morsel of hunger, a remembered corner
ਮਨ ਕਾ ਕਠਪੁਤਲੀ ਮਨ ਹੈ ਖਿਲੌਨਾ

The mind is a puppet, the mind is a toy
ਲੇ ਫਿਰਤਾ ਰਿਸ਼ਤਿਆਂ ਕਾ ਬਿਛੌਨਾ

Carrying around a bedsheet made of broken relationships
ਆਂਖੋਂ ਮੇਂ ਯੇ ਝਾਂਕ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ
AMkhoM meM ye jhAMka rihA hai
It is peering deep into my eyes
ਮਨ ਕਾ ਦਰਿਆ ਹਾਂਕ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ

The river of the mind is driving me forward
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਬੇਚਾ ਕਰਤਾ ਥਾ ਯੇ
aMmrita bechA karatA thA ye
It used to sell the [Amrit: nectar of immortality]
ਜ਼ਹਿਰ ਕੀ ਪੁੜੀਆਂ ਫਾਂਕ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ
ja਼hira kI pu.DIAM phAMka rihA hai
Now it swallows packets of poison
ਫ਼ੇਂਕ ਮੁਖ਼ੌਟਾ ਚਿਹਰਾ ਦੇਖਾ
pha਼eMka mukha਼auTA chiharA dekhA
I threw away the mask and saw the true face
ਕੈਸੇ ਬਦਲਾ ਧੀਰੇ ਧੀਰੇ
kaise badalA dhIre dhIre
How it changed, slowly but surely
ਟੂਟੇ ਲਫ਼ਜ਼ਾਂ ਕੋ ਜੋੜਾ ਹੈ

The entire truth resides within me

I am but a speck, yet I am the entire universe
ਪੁਨਰਜਨਮ ਕੀ ਰਸਮ ਕਰੇਂਗੇ
punarajanama kI rasama kareMge
We shall perform the ritual of rebirth
ਰੂਹ ਅਪਨੀ ਭਸਮ ਕਰੇਂਗੇ
rUha apanI bhasama kareMge
We shall burn our own soul to ashes
ਹਰ ਘਾਟ ਮੇਂ ਭੀ ਫੂਲ ਖਿਲੇਂਗੇ
hara ghATa meM bhI phUla khileMge
Flowers will bloom even at the cremation grounds
ਐਸਾ ਕੋਈ ਤਿਲਿਸਮ ਕਰੇਂਗੇ

I have sacrificed my everything
ਖ਼ੁਦ ਕੋ ਫਿਰ ਸੇ ਜੋੜ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ
kha਼uda ko phira se jo.Da liA hai
And then I pieced myself back together again
ਫ਼ੇਂਕ ਮੁਖ਼ੌਟਾ ਚਿਹਰਾ ਦੇਖਾ
